Prof. D Prabhakaran

Director, Centre for Chronic Conditions and Injuries (CCCC), Vice President - PHFI Senior Program Director-CCMTD

Prof. Prabhakaran graduated from Bangalore Medical College, received his MD (Medicine), DM (Cardiology) degrees from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and MSc in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University, Canada. He has a career commitment to preventive cardiology. He was Additional Professor of Cardiology at the AIIMS, New Delhi till 2007. He is currently Director Centre for Chronic Conditions and Injuries (CCCI) and Vice President at Public Health Foundation of India and Professor at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Adjunct Professor at Rollin's School of Public Health, Emory University. He is fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, U.K. and Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India.
He is also a member of executive council of International Society of Hypertension (ISH), the executive council of the World Hypertension League, the International Society of CVD Epidemiology & Prevention (ISCEP) and the epidemiology council of Cardiology Society of India. His research work spans from mechanistic research to understand causes for increased propensity of CVD among Indians, to developing solutions for CVD through translational research and human research development. He was an integral part of several major international and national research studies including the INTERHEART Study, the CREATE Registry, ICMR and DST funded studies, British Heart Foundation funded projects on low birth weight among migrant Gujaratis, Wellcome trust funded impact of intra-country migration on CHD, the NIH sponsored STICH trial and the India Health Study. He is currently involved in many community based prevention program, strategic clinical trials and observational studies with funding from several national and International agencies. At a policy level he has assisted the Government of India in formulating the National Program for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases and Stroke, helped the World Bank in developing the regional policy note on NCDs for SAARC countries and assisted the WHO (SEARO) in their capacity building and capacity strengthening program of the SEARO countries. He has mentored over 40 post-doctoral students so far and authored several chapters & over 250 scholarly papers with H-index of 40. He is the lead editor of Cardiovascular Volume of latest Disease Control Priorities Project.

Dr. Sandeep Bhalla

Program Director, Training, Centre for Chronic Conditions & Injuries (CCCI), Adjunct Associate Professor Program Director – CCMTD

Dr. Bhalla, an AFMC Pune alumni did his MD and DNB in Community Medicine. He has been awarded Fellowship in Leadership and Implementation Sciences to address NCDs in India (PH-Leader) jointly delivered by PHFI, Emory University and INSP Mexico. He has worked as Tutor in Department Of Community Medicine, M.P Shah Medical College Jamnagar and as Senior Resident in Department of Community Medicine at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjang Hospital, Delhi. He has worked as Technical officer with Resource Centre for Sexual health and HIV/AIDS (RCSHA) i.e. DFID technical support unit for National AIDS Control Program (NACO) Phase-2 where he compiled the database of HIV/AIDS/STI research studies of India in form of around 8000 Indian research studies. During his association with NACO as a Senior Technical Officer for STI Component he has made the operational guidelines for Program Managers and Service Providers for strengthening STI/RTI services for the country with NACO team, which got global recognition.
He also served as Associate Professor (Public Health) at International Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), New Delhi. He is the founder member of Association for the Prevention and Control of Rabies in India (APCRI), and assessor of Healthcare Excellence award of CII and National Assessor for NABH. As Program Director (Training), Centre for Chronic Conditions & Injuries (CCCI), he is leading; Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management (CCEBDM), Certificate Course in Gestational Diabetes Management (CCGDM), Advanced Certificate Course in prevention and Management of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases (ACMDC) and Certificate Course in Management of Thyroid Disorders (CCMTD), and is responsible for successful implementation and management of these programs all across India along with his team. Recently IDF (International Diabetes Federation) recognized PHFI for excellence in providing diabetes education to healthcare professionals with CCEBDM & CCGDM Model, in which more than 7000 doctors have already undertaken the training. this is the recognized course by IDF for Primary Care Physicians for building their capacity in Diabetes Management. CCEBDM has also been adopted by Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Government of Kerala, NRHM for training their Medical Officers, similarly, Certificate Course in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (CCGDM) has also been adopted by National Health Mission, Govt. of Gujarat and it got the accreditation of South Asian Federation of Endocrinology Societies (SAFES). Dr. Bhalla has around 30 publications in various journals.

Dr. Pushkar Kumar

Public Health Specialist - Centre for Chronic Conditions and Injuries (CCCI) ,Training Division

Dr. Pushkar Kumar has done his MBBS from Sri Krishna Medical College, Muzaffarpur and MD from Patna Medical College, Patna. He has over 11 yrs of experience in the health sector and worked both in the Government as well as private sector. He was served for more than 5 ½ yrs as Lead Consultant in Maternal Health Division of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and his job responsibilities included implementation of the maternal health programme, framing of checklists, undertaking regular supportive supervision visits, planning capacity building of various stakeholders and framing of operational and technical guidelines in consultation with the experts. Prior to this, in his 3 ½ yrs stint at NACO as Sr. Technical Officer, Blood Safety and Programme Officer (Quality Control), he was involved in Blood Safety programme management at National level. Earlier he has also managed the blood transfusion services in a tertiary hospital as Registrar at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. Currently he is working with PHFI as a Public Health Specialist for a capacity building initiatives for Primary Care Physicians in the field of Diabetes.

Dr. Deepak Monga

Sr. Program Coordinator Certificate Course in Management of Thyroid Disorders - CCMTD

Dr. Deepak Monga is working as a Senior Program Coordinator for a capacity building initiatives for Primary Care Physicians in the field of Management of Thyroid Disorders.He has done his B.D.S. from prestigious Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi. He did his Hospital and Health Management course from National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), Delhi. He also did his Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IGNOU. He has worked as an Academician in a Private Dental College before joining Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) as a Consultant in their two Dental courses offered through Distance learning mode. Dr. Monga was instrumental in the development, implementation and review of these two courses. He was also associated with many other Medical programs offered by School of Health Sciences, IGNOU. He has a vast experience of course development, course management and course coordination. Prior to joining PHFI, he worked as Senior Consultant (Programs and Projects) with Academy of Hospital Administration, NOIDA, and a pioneer institute in Hospital and Healthcare Management courses. He worked there as Program Coordinator for PG Diploma in Hospital and Health Management and Quality Management and Accreditation of Healthcare Operations. He was also instrumental in developing new courses and liasioning with Universities of repute for the recognition of their courses. He is also a Life-member of Academy of Hospital Administration.

Ms. Variyata Bagre

Program Associate Certificate Course in Management of Thyroid Disorders - CCMTD

Dr. Variyata Bagre (PT) is a Post Graduate in Health and Hospital Management with specialisation in Healthcare Information Technology from International Institute of Health Management Research, New Delhi and holds a Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. She has been associated with Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) since 2013 and had worked in Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management (CCEBDM) project of training PCPs in diabetes management. Presently she is working as Program Associate in CCMTD project. In the past, she was involved in National Certification Committee for Polio Eradication Project and had prepared the National Document for Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication in INCLEN Trust International, New Delhi. Prior joining INCLEN she worked in World of Women (WOW) Corporation, where she did requirement gathering, data collection, training, prepared the software requirement specification document and did implementation of patient portal and physician portal. She also worked in National Institute of Health and Family Welfare as a business analyst on Health Management Information System (HMIS) project and has experience of software implementation (Vista) in Max Hospital, a project of Dell Services.

Dr. Tanu Soni is working as Assistant Program Coordinator for a capacity building initiatives for Primary Care Physicians in the field of Management of Thyroid Disorders, she possess professional qualification in Master in Public Health (MPH) from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India and Bachelors in Dental Surgery (BDS) from Kurukshetra University. Prior to joining PHFI, She finished her internship with International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, South East Asia Regional office, New Delhi. She has been actively involved in the community development projectsand Global field based studies related to healthconsequences due to public sexual Harassment, or "Eve-teasing," among young women in rural Punjab, India.

Mr. Arshit Koundal

Mr. Arshit Koundal is working as Program Assistant for the Certificate Course in Management of Thyroid Disorders. He is a Post Graduate in Clinical Microbiology and a Graduate in Medical Microbiology; he is also pursuing Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health Services Management from Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) Bhubaneswar. Mr. Singh is working as Data Assistant for the Certificate Course in Management of Thyroid Disorders where he is engaged in providing support to the Project Management and M&E team in their daily administrative tasks and solely responsible for data management and documentation for program related activities on regular basis. He has done BCA from Sikkim Manipal University and DCA from NIIT New Delhi, he has also completed Diploma in Computer Hardware and Software from ACTC Computer Education Academy, New Delhi. He has experience of more than 4 years in working with flagship course of PHFI i.e Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management (CCEBDM), which got IDF recognition. Also he is having one year of working experience in Computer Solution Center where his major role was software installation, networking and computer assembling.
